Hello, my name is Dave West and I love parrots. I kept parrots for approximately 25 years. Starting with my first bird, a lutino parakeet (budgie) when I was just a young boy, to over a thousand birds when I was a bit older. A great majority of the birds were the smaller species i.e. Budgies, Love Birds, Cockatiels that were set-up for breeding purposes. I also had several larger birds and larger breeding pairs.

The largest was a pair of Blue & Gold Macaws that eventually went on to produce about 30 young. The bird with the funniest personality was a Scarlet Macaw that had a large vocabulary. We purchased him for a very reasonable price from a Pastor. The pastor had to sell the bird because of the birds colorful vocabulary that he had evidently acquired from a previous owner.

About ten years ago I had to give up my passion of parrot keeping due to severe allergies that I developed. And now one of our boys has even more severe allergies than me. I hope to live my passion through this blog, even looking at a picture of a parrot can bring me emotion and excitement, not quite to the point of having a live bird on my arm but it will have to due.
