Why Macaw Parrots Are Great Pets

Macaw Parrots are parrots that are highly intelligent, trainable, adaptable and fun-loving.

They have different varieties and each demonstrates special characteristics that in general make up a very good pet.

They vary in sizes (measured from head to tail), color and temperament.

For the most part, they are generally taken cared of in similar manners though they require different sizes in their cages.

Life expectancy of these parrots also range and could be around 50 years to 80 years.

If you are out to choose what Macaw Parrot you want as pet, there are a lot of varieties you can choose from. Some of your choices will include:

Blue Gold Macaw – Its length is 33.9 inches, which is relatively large compared to the smallest variety with 12 inches. It has blue wings and tail, dark blue chin, green forehead and golden chest but in some other birds of the same variety especially those that are found in the Caribbean or Trinidad have orange chests.

Scarlet Macaw – Another option would be this variety, which has a length of 33.3 inches almost as large as the formerly mentioned variety. As can be expected, they make great pets for most owners who can handle them pretty well.

Green Wing Macaw – This is second to the largest variety with a length of 36 inches. It has great temperament, highly intelligent and is easily handled by any person. Basic knowledge about raising this pet is a necessity.

There are still other varieties that you can choose from aside from the ones that are mentioned above.

Some special characteristics that they possess that potential pet owners need to be aware of include:

• Majestic beauty
• Nippy but generally have great personalities
• Highly adaptable
• Handled by almost anyone
• Very sociable, which necessitates social interaction
• Limited to mimicry but other varieties can speak
• Relatively easy to train because of their intelligence
• Loud and destructive, which necessitates patience and persistence on the part of the owner
• Bonds closely to owners
• Aggressive behaviors are prominent during mating season.

Caring for Macaw Parrots is relatively easy.

Pet owners must exercise patience in giving them time each day to socialize and train so that the bird will grow happy and satisfied.

You need to pay attention to their diet, which must consist of organic pellets.

Nuts and seeds must be given exclusively as treats only.

Offer them a variety of foods such as fruits and vegetables.

For the most part macaws share similar personalities and it’s more the color and size of the different species that is the deciding factor on which parrot to buy.
